A race car driver injured in a Saturday crash at Shadybowl Speedway in De Graff was released from the hospital.

Rosewood Fire Department Fire Chief Steve Ford told the News-Sun that the fire department was dispatched to 9872 Flowing Well Road around 9:30 p.m. to assist the race car driver into the CareFlight medical helicopter before he was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

He said that he did not know how the crash occurred.

Initial reports from the Rosewood Fire Department dispatch said that the race car driver suffered a neck injury.

According to officials at Miami Valley Hospital, the race car driver was released from the hospital. His current condition is unknown.

Ford said that crashes at Shadybowl Speedway are “not uncommon.”

“It happens. We get called out there a lot," Ford said. "It’s a racetrack, they are responsible to have safety measures in place. They’ve always done good with that. They are racing together and things happen.”

He added that the fire department has not been dispatched to Shadybowl Speedway as many times this year as compared to previous years.

The News-Sun reached out to Shadybowl Speedway regarding the crash, but we have not heard back.
