Clark County nonprofit collecting donations for Hurricane Laura victims

Truck N4 Tykes, a Clark County nonprofit organization, is collecting donations to take to southwest Louisiana for Hurricane Laura victims.

The nonprofit will set up a pop-up tent 4 to 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at Bethel Church of the Nazarene, located at 4400 Osborn Road in Medway.

According to a post on Truck N4 Tykes’ Facebook page, items being collected include water, Gatorade, non-perishable foods, and baby supplies like diapers, wipes, baby food and formula. Cash donations will be accepted to purchase other items that might be needed.

Hurricane Laura was one of the strongest hurricanes ever to strike the U.S. with it’s top wind speed at 150 mph, a report from the Associated Press said.

The hurricane barreled across Louisiana on Thursday shearing off roofs and killing at least six people, the report said. The storm damage extended as far north as central Arkansas.

Truck N4 Tykes said that donations will be loaded on two pickup truck and trailer rigs and taken to Louisiana next week.

If residents want to donate, but can not make it to the designated drop-offs, they should call 937-856-3848.

Other Clark County or Champaign County nonprofits that are contributing to the hurricane relief efforts should email more information to Natalie Jones at natalie.jones@coxinc.com to be added to a comprehensive list.
