The Clark County Dog Shelter is open on an appointment only basis until December 14, according to a Facebook post on the shelter’s page.

“Our standard operating hours will remain the same,” the post said. “However, we request that you dial 937-521-2140 and ask for an appointment to visit our dogs and select your new family member.”

The post encouraged individuals to call ahead.

When visiting the shelter, facial coverings are required when interacting with shelter staff, the post said.

There are also new procedures when turning in a stray dog to the shelter.

“If you need to turn in a stray dog to our facility, we will come to your car to gather required information and take the dog as soon as personnel are available,” the post said.

The Clark County Dog Shelter, located at 5201 Urbana Road in Springfield, is open noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The shelter will be closed on Thanksgiving and Friday.

“Thanks so much for your cooperation and support,” the post said. “Stay healthy and safe.”

Opening by appointment only comes on the heels of Clark County Board of Commissioners decision last week to transition departments that can to virtual operations, as part of efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

The Clark County Board of Health has also issued a work-from-home advisory effective through Dec. 27.
