Traffic and parking will be delayed on multiple streets this morning because of funeral services for a Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputy who died earlier this month.

A funeral service for Deputy Summer Jenkins is being held this morning at Littleton and Rue Funeral Home, 830 N. Limestone St., followed by a procession to her final resting place in Indianapolis.

Springfield police said in a Facebook post to expect a heavy police presence and first responder vehicles in the area around the funeral home, which is at 830 N. Limestone St., near Madison Avenue and Cassilly Street.

Once the procession leaves from the funeral home, it will travel south on North Limestone Street over the Spring Street overpass, west on Main Street, north on Fountain Avenue, and west on North Street as it exits the city, police said. The procession will continue west to Indiana.

“We kindly ask that area commuters plan for additional time and use caution in the affected areas. Your understanding and respect for the solemnity of this procession are greatly appreciated,” police said in the post.

Jenkins worked for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office starting in September, and has been in law enforcement in the Miami Valley for about five years.

She studied mechanical engineering at the University of Dayton, where she attended the student police academy, graduated from the Sinclair Law Enforcement Academy in July 2020 and started work at the Colerain Police Department, according to her obituary. The deputy also worked four years with the Cedarville Police Department.

Jenkins was also celebrated in a procession featuring dozens of law enforcement members Dec. 19. Her cause of death was kept private but it was not in the line of duty.
