One person was taken by medical helicopter following a two-vehicle crash that caused multiple injuries Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, at Upper Valley Pike and state Routes 4/40 in Springfield Twp. BILL LACKEY/STAFF

A Springfield woman was killed as the result of a two-vehicle crash just after noon Tuesday that injured three others, including two children.

The crash happened at 12:07 p.m. on U.S. 40 at Upper Valley Pike in Springfield Twp. just west of the Springfield city limits.

Saxzonee Grisham, 30, of Springfield, was driving a Toyota Corolla east on U.S. 40 and was turning left onto Upper Valley Pike when the car was struck by a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by Dalton Smith, 29, also of Springfield, according to preliminary investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Springfield Post.

The impact forced the Corolla to travel off the left side of the roadway, where it struck a guardrail. The pickup came to rest in the roadway.

Grisham had to be cut from the car and was flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Smith and his passenger, 9-year-old Audrey Smith, along with front Corolla passenger, 7-year-old Evanee Murray, were taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, the patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation.
