Springfield police are investigating after nearly $1,900 worth of items were reported stolen during a home burglary.

Springfield police are investigating after nearly $1,900 worth of items were reported stolen during a home burglary.

Officers were dispatched around 5:10 p.m. on Monday to the 500 block of Murray Street in reference to a burglary, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they spoke with the victim who said he left for work around 8 a.m. and noticed nearly $1,900 worth of items were missing after he returned around 5 p.m.

“He noticed his safe was open with his Winchester shotgun and 1,000 rounds of .223 Remington were gone,” the report said. “His Smith and Wesson M.P. Compact was taken out of his holster. His Google Chrome tablet, Xbox One and Bulova watch were taken as well.”

The victim told police the suspects got into his house through the backyard after allegedly kicking open his door, the report said.

No suspect information was available, and Springfield police continue their investigation into this burglary.
