2 killed in commuter plane crash in Marietta near Ohio River ID’d

A pilot and second occupant were killed Tuesday morning in a commuter plane crash at a car dealership in Marietta near the Ohio River.

The two men killed were identified as Eric Seevers, 45, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Timothy Gifford, 49, of Orient, by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Marietta Post. No others were reported aboard at the time of the crash.

The aircraft was a Beech E-90 King Air, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

The crash was reported at 7:15 a.m. at the Pioneer Buick GMC dealership parking lot at 1000 Pike St., the patrol stated in a release.

“There are no reported injuries to individuals who were on the ground,” the patrol said. “There is reported damage to multiple vehicles and buildings at the dealership.”

Reports at the scene indicated there was a large fire at the crash site.

The crash is under investigation.

The Marietta Times reported that the airplane, which could seat six to 10 passengers, was headed to the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport in Wood County.
