Jim Morris' fishing report for March 24

Indian Lake: Saugeye fishing is beginning to live up to its reputation with many limits and large fish being caught over the past week. The spillway is the most popular place with most anglers fishing with twisters. There also is some illegal snagging going on and several citations have been issued. Good saugeye spots in the lake have been the donut shop harbor, Oldfield and the south bank. Vib-Es and large minnows have been the top baits. Crappie fishing has been good in the Moundwood channel. Catfish are biting all over the lake. A 32-pound shovelhead was caught off of Moundwood recently.

Lake Loramie: Spillway fishing for saugeyes has been constant in recent days. Anglers are using 3-inch twisters with black and chartreuse being the most popular colors. Crappie fishing on the east end of the lake has been good around wood and brush. Fish about a foot deep with minnows or chartreuse/white jigs. Crappies are biting around lily pads on the west end of the lake. Catfish have been hitting all over on tiger worms and nightcrawlers.

C.J. Brown Reservoir: The hot spot has been walleye fishing out of Buck Creek in Snyder Park. Anglers are using Vib-Es and white twisters with black specks. A few walleyes have been taken by boaters trolling over the humps and old road beds. Crappie fishing has been good around the marina. One angler recently caught two nice smallmouth bass and several crappies around the fish attractors near the boat ramp.

Paint Creek Lake: With water levels approaching winter pool, fishing has been improving and more boaters have been able to get out. The only ramp in use right now is the one by the marina. Crappies have been biting around structure on minnows and black/chartreuse jigs. Most are 3-6 feet deep. Fish for catfish in the creek arms with cut shad or nightcrawlers. Look for spillway fishing to get hot in a few days once the water level drops a bit.

Rocky Fork Lake: Bass fishing has been picking up. Some of the best success has been fishing the bays in 3-7 feet of water. Black/blue jigs have been effective. Crappies have been hitting in Kelly's Cove and around the old restaurant. Use minnows and fish at varying depths. The best catfish fishing has been in the shallow water around the campground.

Grand Lake St. Marys: Catfish have been biting all over the lake, mostly on cut shad. A 12.7-pound channel cat was caught during the Outdoorsman tournament last weekend. Crappies have been biting at depths of 1-2 feet around docks and other structure. Jigs have been the best method. Bluegills up to 8.5 inches are being caught on waxworms around docks and wood. A few walleyes have been caught in the spillway.

Rush Run Lake: Trout fishing will become a frenzy when 2,900 rainbows are stocked by the state tomorrow, March 25. Anxious anglers can look for the hatchery truck to arrive between noon and 1 p.m.

Sycamore State Park: Trout stocking is planned for today around noon.

Acton Lake: Crappie fishing has been good off of the pier, at the sugar camp and near the dam. Most are hitting minnows or jigs fished about 4 feet deep. Look for brush or rocks.

Caesar Creek Lake: Saugeye fishing has been picking up. Use jigs tipped with bass minnows in shallow water. Areas around the beach and the Wellman ramp have been productive.

Lake Erie: Poor weather has limited fishing activity. The walleye run is just beginning in the Maumee and Sandusky rivers with a few males being caught. The water temperature in both rivers is about 49 degrees.
