Jim Morris' fishing report for Nov. 5

Lake Loramie: Good fishing has been reported for saugeyes, crappies and bluegills all around the lake. Saugeyes have been hitting bass minnows tipped on jigs, Vib-e's and crankbaits. Crappies are biting on pearl-white split-tails and minnows. Bluegills are close to the banks around brush and hitting spikes and waxworms.

Caesar Creek Lake: Crappies have been biting on minnows and waxworms. Fish about 10 feet deep around brush and fallen trees. Saugeye fishing has been good on the flats and around the island. On the flats try drifting and jigging with nightcrawlers. Troll around the island with spinners and crankbaits. Bluegills are hitting waxworms around stickups. A few muskies have been raised from shallow water.

Indian Lake: Saugeye fishing continues to be good around Dream Bridge, south bank, Blackhawk and Moundwood. Anglers are trolling Husky-Jerks, Rat-L-Traps or jigging with large minnows. Bluegills and crappies have been caught around docks and lily pads. A few perch have been caught near the spillway.

C.J. Brown Reservoir: Crappie fishing continues to be good around the marina. Use minnows and look for deeper spots. Fish around the fish attractors between the ramp and the marina to catch bluegills and perch. Redworms or waxworms would work for both species. Walleye fishing has been slow.

Cowan Lake: Crappies are still being caught by boaters fishing along the ledge in front of South Shore Marina. Use minnows and work the drop-off. Fish with waxworms in brushy areas for bluegills. Use nightcrawlers or chubs to catch catfish just about anywhere on the lake.

Acton Lake: Saugeye fishing has picked up all over the lake. Anglers are tightlining at varying depths with large minnows. Crappies have been plentiful, but most are small. Use crappie minnows and work the brushpiles.

Rush Run: Large bluegills have been caught by tightlining or fishing a waxworm under a bobber. Stocked trout are hitting trout bait or shiny in-line spinners.

Grand Lake St. Marys: All of a sudden anglers are catching yellow perch. One fisherman — who was going after catfish — came away with more than a dozen keeper perch from Chickasaw Creek. One measured 14 inches. Fish close to the bottom with pieces of nightcrawler. Crappies have been hitting in the brushy areas of the channels. Look for bluegills around docks.

Rocky Fork Lake: Fishing around the docks at the old restaurant has been productive for crappies, perch and saugeyes. Minnows have worked for all three species. Try jigging at varying depths. Bluegills continue to hit waxworms around wood in the coves. A few anglers have picked up some saugeyes by trolling the south beach area. A number of white bass have also been caught around the south beach. Bass fishing has been fair around points.

Paint Creek Lake: The water level has been higher than normal because of recent rain, but the Corps has been dropping it down to winter pool. Fishing should improve once the level is set. Saugeye fishing in the spillway is likely to improve. Try a chartreuse twister. You should also be able to cast a twister from the bank near the beach to catch saugeyes. Crappies are in brushy areas anywhere from 3 to 12 feet deep.

Lake Erie: A few walleyes were caught during the past week by anglers trolling around Kelleys Island and from shore anglers fishing on the Lakeside pier.

Yellow perch have been biting near Niagara Reef, west of Green and Rattlesnake Islands, east of Kelleys Island, off of Marblehead and Cedar Point. Perch fishing has also been excellent 8 to 10 miles northeast of Vermilion in 25-35 feet of water.
