Getz: I believe our taxpayer dollars should be watched carefully

I believe that I should be elected to the position of Madison Twp. trustee for two reasons: Money and safety. I feel that I can save Madison Twp. money. With the hard economic times that we are all faced with, I believe that our taxpayer dollars should be watched carefully. Unfortunately, there has been frivolous spending on items such as “top dollar” health insurance.

Just this past year, the current trustees refused to accept an offer by Stokes Twp. to pay Madison Twp. for EMS services. This offer would have required Madison Twp. to respond to approximately 35 EMS incidents per year (incidents in which Madison Twp. already respond to). In return, Stokes Twp. would have paid Madison Twp. $37,041. This offer would have provided enough funds to give Madison Twp. citizens a seven-days-a-week EMS service instead of just five, at no additional cost to the taxpayer.

With no formal education in the area of fire science, the current trustees have a history of interfering with fire department operations, by micromanaging the fire chief and limiting his authority over his own department. With no knowledge of candidate qualifications, the trustees instruct the fire chief as to who he can and cannot promote. The last promotion went to the least qualified candidates. This could potentially become a safety issue for not only fire personnel, but to the citizens of Madison Twp. as well.
