New Year’s Eve in the Springfield area: Sneaker Ball, Grand Ball get people on dance floor in different ways

Your New Year’s Eve options include watching a ball drop in New York City on television or taking in a Sneaker Ball live in Springfield on Tuesday, Dec. 31.

The State Theater encourages people to dance their way into 2025 in their Nikes, adidas Converse or whatever footwear they choose on their dancing feet, 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. General admission is $20 and includes champagne and party favors, while a VIP table on the dance floor is available for $250 or a VIP table on the stage for $300; service fees will apply to all admissions.

DJ T Hunny will emcee, playing hip hop and rhythm and blues tunes from the 1990s and 2000s.

“We’re thrilled to have DJ T Hunny in the house for New Year’s Eve. He’s got an epic fan base and loves to dance, and with our epic sound system in one of the most gorgeous and historic spaces in Springfield, it’ll be a super fun and special way to ring in 2025,” said Rod Hatfield of the State Theater.

New Year’s Eve Grand Ball in South Charleston

The event that celebrates a new year by staying frozen in time, the New Year’s Eve Grand Ball, will bring the ambiance of a Civil War-era dance celebration to the historic South Charleston Town Hall and Opera House, 7 p.m. Tuesday, hosted by the 2nd Cavalry Brigade Band.

In the spirit of the setting, attendees are encouraged to wear historically-based costumes or modern women’s formal wear or men’s suits are alternatives to dance to the music of the mid-Victorian era by the 2nd Cavalry Brigade Band live with a dance mistress available to lead; no dance experience is necessary to join.

The evening will begin with a social hour, followed by a buffet of heavy appetizers and desserts and capped by a toast to ring in 2025 at midnight. Photo portraits of the event will also be for sale. Families are welcome as are well-behaved kids under age 10, who will be admitted free.
