Cox First Media, a news organization that covers nine counties in Southwest Ohio and includes the Dayton Daily News, Springfield News-Sun and Journal-News, is seeking freelance content creators with a focus on writing articles to tell the stories of local people.

As a freelance writer for Cox you will dive into our communities to uncover compelling stories about the people and culture that shape them. Your writing will be in a journalistic style, combining thorough interviews and thoughtful narrative to tell well-rounded, authentic stories.

Key needs:

  • A background in journalistic storytelling
  • Excellent writer interview skills
  • Experience in video creation for social media is a plus
  • A passion for meeting people and telling their stories authentically
  • Self-motivation, reliability and the ability to work independently

We want this person to write an average of one to two stories per week. Pay is on a per-story basis and will increase if the content creator can also make video to go with the stories.

If interested, please send your resume and writing samples (include a link to your LinkedIn page if you have one) to Lifestyles Editor Mandy Gambrell at mandy.gambrell@coxinc.com. No phone calls, please.

When you send in your work, specify which coverage area or news outlet you prefer to cover. A freelancer will be selected for each of the three brands.
