A new chapter will be written for local authors this weekend, thanks to the Clark County Public Library .

The library’s main branch will revive its Springfield Writes Authors’ Fair with 20 writers in a broad range of genres converging in the library’s rotunda from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day will begin with guest speaker Vick Mickunas — who hosts “Book Nook!” on WYSO-FM (91.3) and writes a book column for the Sunday Springfield News-Sun — in the Gaier Room.

The authors’ fair will follow at 12:30 p.m. Both events are free.

This will be the first authors’ fair since 2015. Library public relations manager Allison Peck said people have been asking about the fair, but the many renovations of the past two years kept the event from happening.

With the new additions complete, such as the rotunda, it will work to everyone’s advantage.

“Before we were in the library and some people thought we were too spread out and some writers weren’t as visible,” she said. “The rotunda has a much better layout.”

Most of the authors are from Clark County, but a few are from Champaign County and other nearby areas.

Some have participated in previous authors’ fairs and some are brand new to the event, Peck said.. Some of the genres will include science fiction, Christian fiction and children’s books.

Some of the authors will have their works for sale and answer questions.

“We hope the authors will be able to network, that’s another goal,” Peck said.

This event will be competing with a Dayton book fair the same day, but Peck said the focus is on Springfield-area authors.

Several people have requested a book talk, and Mickunas fit the bill. He’ll speak about the various authors he’s interviewed over the years and take part in a question-and-answer session.

Since the response to reviving the authors’ fair was strong, Peck anticipates its continuation with more participants in the future and anyone interested can contact the library’s public relations department.

“We hope people will come to it and will check out some of the new spaces we have here if they haven’t been in in a while,” she said.
