The Vintage Ohio South wine festival will return to the Clark County Fairgrounds this year and will split into two parts to more effectively spotlight Ohio wines.

The event, hosted by the Ohio Wine Producers Association (OWPA), will be held in two sessions: from noon to 4 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, inside a large special-events building at the Clark County Fairgrounds.

Vintage Ohio South will include 20 wineries, dozens of vendors, food trucks, wine-appreciation seminars, cooking demonstrations and entertainment.

The two sessions will better accommodate the crowd and offer each taster a bit more personal attention, according to OWPA Executive Director Donniella Winchell. Last year, the wine festival attracted about 1,500 visitors.

“Taster” tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Attendees will receive 12 tickets for samples of wine and will take home a souvenir glass. Additional tasting tickets are available at $5 for three tickets. Designated driver tickets are $10 each and include some complimentary soft drinks or water. Wineries will be selling bottles and cases to go.

The Kent State University-Ashtabula grape-growing and winemaking  team will be on hand to help take some of the mystery out of wine appreciation, organizers said.
