Springfield native, Justin Chambers, leaves medical drama TV show

After 15 years, Justin Chambers, is leaving “Grey’s Anatomy,” a medical drama television show.

Chambers played Dr. Alex Karev on the show. Only three other actors who have been with the series since the first episode remain: Ellen Pompeo, James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson.

“There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” Chambers said in a statement to Deadline. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”

He has been married for over 25 years to Keisha Chambers, a former agency booker.

This Southeastern High School graduate was born in Springfield in 1970 to two former Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies. He is one of the youngest among five siblings - along with his twin brother, Jason.

Chambers started his career as a model for Calvin Klein fragrances.

Eventually, he moved to New York and studied acting for several years before getting his big break in the NBC soap opera “Another World.”

Chambers has returned to the Springfield area in recent years to Ohio Valley Surgical Hospital and Young’s Jersey Dairy.
