Mannheim Steamroller will return with its popular Christmas show as part of the Clark State Performing Arts Center's 2024-25 season.

When it comes to live holiday entertainment, consider “Mannheim Steamroller Christmas by Chip Davis” as a full sleigh of 15 musicians playing more than 20 instruments in neoclassical new-age style with a backdrop of multimedia effects for an immersive experience.

One of the groups most known for its holiday experience will share its take on Christmas classics at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Clark State Performing Arts Center as part of its 2024-25 season.

Tickets are still on sale. The Performing Arts Center is located at 300 S. Fountain Ave.

According to its official website, Mannheim Steamroller is the number one Christmas music artist of all time with more than 31 million albums sold.

It’s a year of anniversaries for Mannheim Steamroller founder Chip Davis, who marked the 50th anniversary of his first record and the 40th since the first Christmas album. Although the group has become linked with the holiday, he said it wasn’t well received then.

“Everyone in the music industry back in 1984 told me, ‘A Christmas album? You can’t do that. Only artists who have run out of ideas ever do a Christmas album,’” Davis said in a press release. “When someone says ‘It’ll never work,’ I take it as a personal challenge.”

This 39th annual Christmas Tour that will play nationally until the end of the year requires two traveling troupes to meet concert demands, Davis said, and the live experience differs from a recording in that you can’t see Mannheim Steamroller playing with an orchestra and the repertoire they perform is not on one album but a compilation of classics that makes it a fresh experience.

Christmas music is something that people look forward to in the season and Mannheim Steamroller recordings have become part of people’s lives.

“It’s comforting to hear something from your childhood, kind of like comfort food. Also, Christmas time is family time, and our music and concerts are all family friendly. We often see three generations attending one of our shows,” said Davis.

“It is one of the biggest honors that you can possibly have to be invited into people’s homes through my music and have them integrate me into their Christmas traditions. I absolutely love it and love being part of their families.”

Concert tickets range from $45-105. To purchase tickets or for more information, go to pac.clarkstate.edu/shows/2024-2025/.
