Today, we can tell you about a place you may just want to go nuts over.

Restaurant: The Peanut Shoppe

Location: 1576 E. Main St., Springfield

Contact:

Background/Overview:

The Planters Peanut Co. was founded in Pennsylvania in 1906. It opened many Peanut Shoppes throughout the United States in the 1930s. The Springfield location opened as store No. 50 on South Limestone Street in 1937. More than two decades later, Planters was acquired by Standard Brands, which wasn’t interested in the concept of retail business. As a result, hundreds of stores were sold or closed. The Peanut Shoppe in Springfield became independently owned and moved to its present location in the early 1960s.
