The atmosphere of a Los Angeles red-carpet event will unfold in Springfield this weekend.
The first No Bull Music Benefit will feature live music, motivational speakers and special guests 7-10 p.m. Saturday at the Champions Center on the Clark County Fairgrounds.
A similar benefit in Los Angeles recently encouraged organizers and Southeastern High School graduates Scott Hannah and Tyler Gregory to try something similar here.
“We decided since we’re from Ohio we wanted to bring the red carpet and bright lights home. It will be such a positive event,” said Hannah, now a student at Wright State University along with Gregory, also known as the No Bull Guys.
The pair became spokesmen for the national nonprofit Great American No Bull Challenge, a social action organization aimed at teaching youth social responsibility and anti-bullying, after creating an anti-bullying video for a nationwide contest in which they were finalists.
The benefit show is another way to bring attention to the cause while entertaining. Rockers Liberty Deep Down, singer-songwriter Spencer Sutherland and country singer-songwriter Kira Taylor are among the guest performers.
Former “America’s Got Talent” TV show contestant Olivia Millerschin will play a song from an upcoming film, “The Bully Chronicles,” and speak about the movie. Local performers will include past Springfield’s Got Talent winner Wes Haney, the Southeastern High School Choir and two Dayton-based bands.
Guest speakers will include Lauren Galley, who runs a nonprofit promoting self-confidence for girls, No Bull spokesman Nicole Edington as well as Hannah and Gregory.
Hannah said all proceeds will go to the Great American No Bull Challenge.
“The goal is to raise awareness and help out those who may be struggling and raise awareness of the program to keep it going,” he said.
A number of social media stars will attend as well. For a list of guests, go to the benefit webpage at www.nobullbenefit.org.
Several vendors will be set up with resources for parents and teens to deal with bullying, depression and other issues. Hannah said people are free to get up and move about as they please throughout the show.
The event is open to everyone. Tickets cost $20 for general admission tickets and $35 for VIP tickets, which will include a “swag bag” and VIP lounge access.
VIP ticketholders can arrive beginning at 5 p.m. and general admission ticketholders at 6 p.m. And attendees should remember they’ll be walking a red carpet.
