MUSEUMS

Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum

Description: The museum chronicles Ohio’s contributions to the history of space flight including the accomplishments of Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon.

Location: 500 Apollo Drive, Wapakoneta (Auglaize County)

Open: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, and holidays Memorial Day through Labor Day

Admission: $8, or $7 for senior citizens 60 and older, $4 for children 6-12, free for children 5 and younger

Imagination Station

Description: The hands-on science and learning center also features a simulation theater.

Location: 1 Discovery Way, corner of Summit and Adams streets, Toledo (Lucas County)

Open: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, closed Monday

Admission: $8.50, or $7.50 for senior citizens 65 and older, $6.50 for children 3-12, free for children 2 and younger

Special exhibits: “Big Dig: Footprints to Fossils” a mammoth exhibit covering more than 6,000 square feet. Visitors can excavate their way through piles of shale from northwest Ohio in search of fossils that they can take home.

Toledo Museum of Art

Description: The main museum building covers 4½ acres on two levels, with 45 galleries; the Glass Pavilion has five galleries.

Special exhibits: “The Psychedelic ’60s: Posters From the Rock Era” (June 11 through Sept. 12), 150 posters on loan from the Houston Freeburg Collection including 50 posters representing black-light design; “Out of Sight” (June 18 through Aug. 29), works of art with details that are hidden from normal view or that were designed to be hard to find; “92nd annual Toledo Area Artists Exhibit (July 9 through Aug. 22), featuring nearly 100 works.

Toledo Zoo

Description: More than 6,000 animals representing more than 760 species live on the 62-acre grounds.
