The grand opening for a new location of a local favorite could be coming within the next month.

The Springfield location of Victor’s Taco Shop is expected to open in May, owner Hector Gonzales said.

“We’ve been a little bit delayed because of inspections, but God willing, we’re trying to open by the first week of May,” he said.

Gonzales said he would like to have the new location open in time for the Cinco de Mayo holiday.

Victor’s will fill the vacancy left by the former Krispy Krunchy Chicken at 1929 E. Main St. The restaurant focuses on fresh, fast Mexican food, Gonzales said, and provides a lot of options for diners.

“We have lots of combos,” he said. “There’s burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas and a lot more that we offer.”

The shop has a location in Marion, as well as three other locations in Dayton, Xenia and Huber Heights. A lot of fans of the restaurant have been wanting the chain to come to Springfield for a while, Gonzales said, so when a real estate agent contacted him about the East Main Street location, he went for it.

“We feel really good about the customer base here,” he said. “It seemed like a good fit.”

Springfield’s location will be unique, as it will be the first with a drive-through option, as well as a sit-in dining area. Gonzales said it’s something he’s wanted to have in one of his restaurants for a while.

“I’m very excited about it,” he said.

The restaurant is currently undergoing inspections, Gonzales said, and will likely open within a few weeks. He said the new eatery will begin taking job applications a week before it opens.

Gonzales said he’s excited for the new location to open and looks forward to serving new customers in Springfield.

“It’s lots of fresh, fast food at good prices,” he said. “I hope people will enjoy it.”
