Company CEO Barry Litwin told corporate employees today via a video conference call that the chain is “winding down” operations immediately and that today will be their last day of employment, CNN reported today.
Employees shared internal Microsoft Teams chats with CNN Thursday, including notifications sent to store managers that all Party City locations’ doors would be shut Feb. 1.
Headquartered in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, Party City’s offerings include balloons, Halloween costumes and other party goods. Its 850 locations include Party City, Halloween City, Toy City, Factory Card and Party Outlet brands and span more than 70 countries, according to the company.
The chain has 20 locations in Ohio, including stores in Miami Twp., Beavercreek, Huber Heights and Fairfield Twp.
Founded in 1986, Party City has been struggling for years. By 2021, it employed approximately 6,400 full-time and 10,100 part-time workers, CNN reported.
