Navistar reports strong third quarter

Navistar executives reported a strong third quarter this year, pointing to a 17 percent increase in revenue compared to the same period last year. The company reported that revenues in the quarter were $3 billion.

Company officials said this week they expect revenues for the year to be between $11.25 billion and $11.75 billion, up from projections of $9.75 and $10.25 billion reported last year.

The company, whose headquarters is in Illinois, also announced a net income of $150 million compared to a net loss of $48 million observed during the previous quarter, which saw a one-time charge of $159 million to address a legal class action settlement.

Navistar is a significant employer in Clark County and employs approximately 2,000 workers at its Springfield plant, which specializes in producing medium-duty commercial trucks.

Last month, the company announced that it would be reducing its production line speed at the Springfield plant. The company has yet to release official numbers on how many lines will be affected by the change or if it will affect staffing levels.
