DPL Inc. names new CEO

AES Corp. has named Phil Herrington president and CEO of DPL Inc., the parent company of Dayton Power & Light Co. He succeeds Paul Barbas, who left DPL in December following the acquisition of DPL by AES.

Herrington currently serves as president of Global Wind Generation for AES where he is responsible for the development, operations and asset management of AES’ worldwide wind generation portfolio. He will assume his new role at DPL later this month.

“Phil’s expertise makes him a great addition to the DPL organization, and to my team.”

Herrington and his family will relocate to the Dayton area from Alexandria, Va. this year and he will continue DPL’s practice of executive involvement in issues and organizations critical to the future of the Miami Valley, AES said.

“Phil brings more than 20 years of proven leadership skills in the energy industry. He has successfully managed a wide range of operations, commercial activities and development efforts throughout his career,” said Andy Vesey, AES executive vice president and chief operating officer, Global Utilities. “Phil’s expertise makes him a great addition to the DPL organization, and to my team.”

Prior to joining AES, Herrington held a number of leadership positions for nearly 20 years with Edison Mission Group (EMG), a subsidiary of Edison International. EMG is a global energy company based in California which runs competitive power generation businesses with assets in coal, natural gas and wind, as well as energy marketing and trading operations. Before that Herrington was a project manager with Monsanto Chemical Company’s engineering group in St. Louis. He also served in the U.S. Navy as a submarine officer.

DP&L has about 500,000 commercial and residential customers in West-Central Ohio.
