A banquet center in a historic Springfield building is now under new management and a grand reopening is planned for Sunday.

The Bushnell Banquet Center, located on the lower level of the historic Bushnell Building in downtown Springfield, is now managed by Lisa Behr — who operated it from 2009 to 2015.

“When the opportunity came up to run it again I had to because I love it,” she said. “I enjoy working with brides and families. It just energizes me to be able to work with people to see their dreams happen.”

Behr is hosting an event Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. where potential customers can come and see the spaces that’s been renovated. The spaces available are for a number of different events including weddings, wedding showers, baby showers, corporate events, holiday parties and other events.

“We put new carpet in, we painted and made it look fresh and new,” Behr said.

Door prizes will be given away and a grand prize worth more than $1,000 will also be up for grabs.

“We have plenty of dates available for renting the space,” she said. “We are looking into 2020 and I’m starting to book for it. We got our improvements finished up and a lot of brides will want to start booking. I’ve gotten a lot of interest for 2020.”

She said the bookings include the day before where clients can come and decorate the rooms before the event. She and her staff also clean up after the event.
