Trotwood, Valley View, Marion Local secure football playoff spots

Trotwood-Madison, Valley View and Marion Local have undefeated high school football seasons going, and all three have trumped that special status.

With two regular-season games remaining, those high-end teams have secured playoff spots, which became official following Tuesday’s release of the weekly Ohio High School Athletic Association computer rankings.

There are seven divisions, each comprised of four regions. The top eight teams in each region following the end of the regular season qualify for the playoffs. The top four host first-round games.

Centerville had its unbeaten streak snapped 21-14 at Northmont last Friday. Anna has rebounded from a Week 6 lose at Marion Local to defeat St. Henry and Parkway its last two games.

Four of the five Greater Western Ohio Conference National East teams remain among the top eight in D-I, Region 3: Centerville (No. 1), Wayne (No. 4), Fairmont (No. 6) and Springfield (No. 8). That will continue to be adjusted following Weeks 9-10 games between those teams. Fairmont (6-2) is at Centerville (7-1) this week and Wayne (6-2) hosts Springfield (6-2).

The other GWOC National East team, Beavercreek (5-3), has lost three straight and has dropped to 11th in Region 3.

Sidney (7-1), Belmont (8-0) and Troy (6-2) rank 4-6 in D-II, Region 8. Troy vaulted into playoff contention by overwhelming Sidney 48-21 last week.

Joining Trotwood in the loaded D-III, Region 12 are No. 2 Franklin (7-1), No. 4 Alter (7-1), No. 6 Chaminade Julienne (6-2) and No. 7 Dunbar (5-3). Alter is at CJ in Week 10.

Anna (7-1) is at Coldwater (6-2) in a major Midwest Athletic Conference game this week with near-maximum computer points at stake. Unbeaten Greeneview (8-0) is No. 9 in D-V, Region 20. The Rams must win out to crack the top eight.

Coldwater has lost to Marion Local and Clinton-Massie (7-1) but has climbed to No. 4 in D-VI, Region 24. The Cavaliers take a five-game win streak against visiting Anna. West Liberty-Salem (7-1) is No. 8 in Region 24 and hosts West Jefferson (8-0) on Friday.

• Eaton (3-5) is at Carlisle (5-3) in Thursday’s only game (ABC 22 / FOX 45, Ch. 45.2, Ch. 995, Spectrum, mytvdayton.com). Carlisle has lost successive games to Madison and Milton-Union and is on the bubble for D-V, Region 20 playoff contention.
