There may still be a week left to the regular season, but it wasn’t too early for Southeastern to celebrate Friday night at Greeneview. The Trojans clinched the Ohio Heritage Conference South Division title earlier this week and completed a season sweep of league rival Greeneview on Friday night with a 51-42 win.

The good times will likely continue to roll this weekend for Southeastern. The Trojans (19-1, 12-0 OHC South) are in contention for the top seed in the Troy Division IV sectional. Their lone loss came Dec. 3 to Tri-Village, who was 12-5 entering a Cross County Conference showdown on Friday night at Bethel. Southeastern has won 18 in a row since the loss.

Tri-Village is also in the sectional, and Southeastern coach Brian Hecker said he expects the two teams to be the top two seeds. He’ll learn Southeastern’s seed Sunday afternoon in the tournament draw meeting in Troy.

“There are definitely still things we need to work on, but I think we’re playing very well heading into the tournament,” Hecker said. “We’ll continue to try to talk about those things in practice and just try to make sure we don’t become complacent, which I don’t think we are.”

Greeneview had the momentum early Friday after taking an 11-8 lead midway through the second quarter. But the Trojans quickly took the lead with a big run. After Southeastern tied the game 11-11, Tyler King scored a layup and Trevor King followed with a steal, basket and subsequent free throw after a foul to extend the lead to four points.

Southeastern led 21-11 at halftime. Greeneview got within five points in the third quarter, but the Trojans finished on a 7-2 run to go up 33-23 at the end of the third. The Rams (13-7, 8-4) got no closer than six points in the fourth.

Greeneview coach Kyle Fulk said he was happy the team narrowed the deficit each time Southeastern looked to be pulling away. The Rams were without leading scorer Ethan Bradds in Friday’s game, which was senior night. Bradds, a senior forward, averages 19.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.

“I’m pretty pleased with the way our guys battled, but we made a few too many mistakes and missed too many shots in the first half,” Fulk said. “If we made could have made some, it could have been a little closer at the end. This team has faced some adversity and lost some guys along the way, and guys are stepping up and filling roles, which is all I can ask for.”

Andrew Lyons and Trevor King led Southeastern with 15 points each, while Colton Spears added 11. Mason Schneider led Greeneview with 18 points.
