Medical marijuana: Are you driving from Miami Valley for first day of sales Wednesday?

The wait for legal medical marijuana will finally be over on Wednesday for some Ohio patients who say the only relief they find is through cannabis. But the first dispensaries that will be open are hours-long drives from the Dayton region.

The first sales will be made in at least three dispensaries that plan to serve patients Wednesday morning.

Two dispensaries in Wintersville, near Steubenville, and another in Sandusky will begin selling legal medical marijuana to patients with recommendations from certified doctors.

CY+ and Ohio Valley Natural Relief will both open in Wintersville, more than 200 miles east of Dayton. The Forest Sandusky, 1651 Tiffin Ave. in Sandusky, is a roughly three-hour drive from Dayton.

Doors at the dispensaries are expected to open at 9 a.m.

If you plan to travel from the Miami Valley to one of the dispensaries to be among the first patients in Ohio to receive medical marijuana, the Dayton Daily News wants to hear from you. Call reporter Chris Stewart at 937-225-2442 or email him at chris.stewart@coxinc.com.
