Background/overview
In 1993,two young men sought space to sell “made-on-the-spot” gentle drinks known as “smoothies” to beach combers in Destin, Fla. Their smoothies were an overall sensation, so they set up a shop in the town to meet the needs of their growing list of customers who craved their nutritious drinks made with fresh, quality ingredients.
In 1997, their company wanted to expand to include franchising, which contracted a new location owner the right to use the firm’s business model and brand name for profit.
Two years later healthy food selections were added to the Tropical Smoothie menu to support its customers’ desires to “Eat Better. Feel Better.”
In 2012 a Tropical Smoothie Cafe opened close to the Huber Heights home of Tim Poulos. Although he’d never heard of the company before his first visit, he was impressed with its health-conscious beverage and food list, so he inquired about franchise opportunities. He had prior restaurant management experience and understood this company met most of his wants and needs in business, so in November 2013 he opted to be a franchisee and opened Springfield’s first Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is partnered with Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine.
Camp Sunshine is the site of year-round retreats for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families at no cost to them. The campaign invites donations that are proudly accepted at any location.
