This photo from August 1925 shows Michael Phillip Longo (right) with his son, Harry Longo, in front of Longo’s Fruit Store at 135 W. Main Street.

Michael came to the United States from Sicily in 1888 and lived in Cincinnati for several years before coming to Springfield around 1900 and working as a fruit peddler with other Longo family members before opening his own store.

His sons continued the business, which also had a location in the City Marketplace following his death in 1958. The store was open through the 1980s.

Today, the building has been demolished and the site is the location of the parking lot for United Senior Services of Clark County.
