Legend, along with actress Tika Sumpter, the actress portraying Michelle Obama in “Southside With You,” are developing another historical television show for WGN entitled “Black Wall Street.”
The series will center around the real-life community of Greenwood, located in Tulsa, Okla., during the 1920s.
The Greenwood neighborhood, the most affluent African-American community of its time, was burned to the ground by white rioters, leaving more than 3,000 people dead and the lose of nearly 600 black-owned businesses.
Later this year, Legend will flex his acting muscles in the film, “La La Land” opposite Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Legend also serves as the film’s executive producer and composed a song for the film’s soundtrack.
“This is the most time I’ve spent on a movie set as an actor,” Legend said as he spoke with Vanity Fair. “It’s exciting to be a part of (a movie) that is beautifully done.”
