South Charleston community offers comfort after 8-year-old boy’s death

Visitation for the 8-year-old South Charleston boy who drowned is today.

Visitation for Grady Neff, a student at Miami View Elementary School, will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Clark County Fairgrounds Mercantile Annex Building.

“Everybody that knew Grady loved him,” the family said in a statement. “He was always the biggest personality in the room with a smile or a wave or a hug.”

The community has offered an outpouring of support and prayers for the family following reports of the news on our Facebook page.

“What a shame, such a handsome little guy,” Jerrod Burks wrote.

Ashley Wertz said he was “one of the sweetest little boys” she ever met.

“Always happy and a passionate soccer player,” she wrote.

“Prayers for the family on the such a loss as tragic as this,” Wanda M. French said.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has ruled out anything criminal, Lt. Kristopher Shultz said, and are continuing their investigation to see what might have caused the possible bathtub drowning. An autopsy is pending and his family has said he had a seizure.

Southeastern Superintendent David Shea said Neff was an outstanding student.

“He was a great, great kid that we all loved,” Shea said.
