A Springfield couple aboard a plane flying from Florida to an Urbana airport crashed in Scott County, Tennessee, killing a woman and injuring the man and dog on board, according to Knoxville media reports.

The crash wreckage was found by Scott County authorities around 8 a.m. Wednesday near a cliff line along Old Jamestown Road in Helenwood northwest of Knoxville, according to the reports.

According to reports, Vicki Maxwell, was killed in the crash and her husband, David Maxwell was transported to a hospital with life threatening injuries.

The Independent Herald reported a rescue team was sent to search in the area around midnight Wednesday after the couple’s daughter, Erin Patton, notified authorities that her parents’ plane had not arrived.

Scott County Sheriff Ronnie Phillips said an aircraft from the U.S. Air Force's Civil Air Patrol flew over the region during the overnight hours and was able to ping the missing plane but was unable to determine its exact location, due to the rugged terrain, according to the Independent Herald report.

Knoxville media outlets reported the plane left Venice Municipal Airport in Venice, Fla Tuesday morning and the FAA issued an alert when the aircraft did not arrive at its destination in Urbana. The plane disappeared from air traffic tracking systems in Scott County, according to the reports.
