The man visited another male he knows in the 1500 block of Charles Street at about 8 a.m. yesterday morning, the report said. He asked the man to purchase drugs for him, but the other man refused.

The other man later found him propped up on a fence in an alley on Charles Street and he did not appear to be breathing, according to the report. The man tried to perform CPR on him, but was unsuccessful.

The man then put him into his car to drive him to the hospital, but was later pulled over by deputies near Glenn Avenue and Mound Street after failing to yield at a stop sign at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Medics from the Springfield Fire/Rescue Division confirmed the man was deceased and the friend confirmed his identity to Springfield Police Division officers. The friend told police the man was known to use heroin.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death and it is a suspected drug overdose, Coroner Dr. Richard Marsh said.
