Gary Kennedy’s wife, Rosalie Kennedy, 62, was the one who called 9-1-1, Dodds said.
“The statement that she had made led us to believe that she had shot her husband,” he said, “which she indicated on the 9-1-1 call that she did.”
Rosalie Kennedy was arrested and charged with murder. She is lodged in the Logan County Jail and the case will be presented to a grand jury on Tuesday, Logan County Prosecutor Eric Stewart said.
Kennedy refused to talk to investigators after her arrest, Dodds said, so they’ll have to talk to family and friends to find out what may have led to the shooting.
“One theory could be that it was a domestic type situation that caused the shooting … we don’t know,” he said.
The sheriff’s office hadn’t been called to the Kennedy home recently, he said.
Rosalie Kennedy was charged with domestic violence in 1997, according to records from Bellefontaine Municipal Court. The case was dismissed. Gary Kennedy pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct in the same year.
“We’ll have to sift through the evidence and conduct an investigation and see where that leads us,” Dodds said.
The Kennedys’ home is in a secluded area.
“That’s a rural area, quiet area,” he said. “You just don’t expect those things.”
This is the second murder in rural Logan County in the last six months. Jeff Brentlinger, 45, was found shot to death in his Zanesfield home on Thanksgiving. Five people have been charged in connection with that murder.
“It’s troubling anytime you see anything like this,” Dodds said.
