A large fire was discovered by detectives from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office’s Vice and Organized Crime Unit coming from behind a home in the 11400 block of Gerlaugh Road in Park Layne on Tuesday around 6 p.m., Lt. Kristopher Shultz said in a media release.

“Detectives from the unit detected odors present with the fire that were consistent with precursor chemicals and the manufacture of illegal drugs, primarily methamphetamine,” Shultz said.
After the fire was extinguished, deputies obtained a search warrant where deputies found evidence of the manufacturing and use of meth in the home and in a trailer in the back of the property.
A newborn child was also discovered in the home who was ‘exposed to elements of the manufacturing process,’ Shultz said. Investigators did not indicate if the child suffered any injuries or required hospitalization.
Deputies arrested Larry Jenkins, 46, and charged him with illegal manufacturing of drugs, and child endangering, both felony charges. Jenkins remains housed in the Clark County Jail.
