The 2017 Clark County Fair has more shows, more attractions and more free music — and it’s all for the lowest admission price that fairgoers have seen in a number of years, according to Dean Blair, executive director of the fairgrounds.

“It’s more bang for the buck,” Blair said.

General admission has dropped to $6, which is thought to be the lowest price since 1998. Parking is free, as is admission for kids ages 5 and under. The fair, at 4401 S. Charleston Pike, runs from Friday, July 21, to Friday, July 28.

Visitors can see up to 12 free musical acts, compared to last year’s seven, Blair said. Entertainment varies from a Shark Encounter aquarium and show, a Pork Chop Revue of performing pigs, an Abraham Lincoln impersonator and an “All Things IH” display of International Harvester equipment.

And although rides cost extra, there are more of those, too, Blair said, including a pony ride. In addition, helicopter rides will be offered for $20, which is a lower price than last year and lower than most other fairs, he said.

The fair also has several promotions:

• Saturday, July 22: Veterans Day. Veterans in uniform or with I.D. admitted free.

• Tuesday, July 25: Golden Wedding Day, celebrating Clark County couples who have marked their 50th wedding anniversary.

• Wednesday, July 26: Kids Day. Kids 14 years old and younger admitted free, along with games and contests in the grandstand starting at 1 p.m.

Providing more for less was an effort to enhance the fair experience and help families make memories.

“The focus really, truly was: how do we offer more?” Blair said.
