A 66-year-old woman died in a house fire last night in Champaign County, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office. An autopsy will be conducted in Montgomery County today.
UPDATE @2:35 a.m. (Dec. 19):
One person died in the blaze, Champaign County officials said early Tuesday morning. The victim’s identification is not being released at this time, the official said.
No other information was immediately available.
UPDATE @ 10:06 p.m. (Dec. 18)
Crews were dispatched to a Christiansburg house fire at around 8 p.m. and arrived to a fully engulfed structure.
"I could see some heavy explosions up in the air, some fireballs went up in the air," said Cap. Trent Zerkle of Christiansburg Fire Department. Explosions reportedly came from both the house and the garage.
There were belongings inside the house but there has been no contact with homeowners yet, according to Cap. Zerkle.
Christiansburg Fire is currently investigating the cause of the fire and whether or not anyone has been injured. Crews are still on scene putting out hot spots.
INTIAL REPORT
A house on the 3100 block of South Elm Tree Road in Christiansburg has been completely destroyed after a fire Monday evening.
There are Christiansburg fire crews on scene and we are still working to find out if anyone was injured.
