A 74-year-old Springfield man has been accused of choking a family member over a borrowed lawnmower.

John Castle has been charged with misdemeanor assault in Clark County Municipal Court. Springfield police said in a report that the victim told them Castle allowed him to take the lawnmower but came to his home in the 400 block of South Western Avenue on Monday demanding it back.

“After a few moments of arguing, Castle approached (the victim) and began choking him,” the report says. “This caused redness to (the victim’s) throat.”

The report says other relatives were able to separate the men. Castle eventually got the mower and took it home, according to police.
