Urbana police uncover large indoor marijuana operation

Urbana police officer took part in a raid earlier this month they said netted two arrests and allegedly uncovered a large indoor marijuana growing operation.

Multiple officers acting with a search warrant raided a home in the 300 block of Boyce Street on Thursday, Dec. 7, according to information from the Urbana Police Division. Police said they uncovered evidence of several drug crimes, including an alleged large indoor marijuana growing operation that took up a large portion of the building’s interior.

Police alleged they also recovered suspected fentanyl, LSD, morphine, hashish and other unknown substances that will be sent to a crime lab for chemical analysis, according to a news release.

They also allegedly found a pill press used to turn powdered substances into pills. That equipment also allowed an identifying stamp to be pressed onto the pills, making them appear to look like prescription medications. Officers also alleged they confiscated two handguns in the residence.

Forrest H. Saylor, 27, and Cassandra P. Miller, 25, both of 304 Boyce St., were arrested on multiple charges and taken to the Tri-County Jail. Police said they have also interviewed other individuals who weren’t present when the raid occurred, and expect to present additional criminal charges as the investigation continues.

Both Saylor and Miller face numerous felonies, including trafficking in drugs, illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, aggravated possession of drugs and illegal manufacture of drugs.

Both faced a preliminary hearing in Champaign County Municipal Court last week. Bond was set at $25,000 for Saylor and $20,000 for Miller, according to court records.
