Here’s three things to know about Riley and what happened to him during the shooting.

1. Local connection
Riley, 47, graduated from Kenton Ridge High School in 1988. He is currently a school administrator at Century Middle School in Thornton, where he has worked since 2009. His mother, Rita Riley, still lives in Springfield.
2. Injured while trying to aid another victim
Riley was waiting in line for concessions when the shooting starting. A woman fell near him and she was shot in the chest. He attempted to resuscitate her after dragging her to a merchandise tent. He later used a wheelbarrow to push her over to medical staff. That’s when he noticed his injuries. He had been hit by shrapnel in his left and abdomen

3. Resting comfortably
He was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He was treated and released after being reunited with his fianceé, whom he had become separated from during the shooting. They returned home to Colorado and he sought additional medical treatment there.
