Springfield man accused of keeping kids in home with dog feces, bugs

A Springfield man has been accused of having two children living in unsanitary conditions at his home in June, police said, including dog feces on the floor and no hot water.

Robert A. Banks, 34, of 144 S. Light St., was arrested Tuesday and charged with endangering children, according to court records. He’s scheduled to appear today in Clark County Municipal Court.

A warrant was filed for Banks’ arrest on June 26 after officers allegedly found dog feces throughout the front room of his home, as well as rotting food in the refrigerator, according to a police report. The sink, stove and kitchen counter also allegedly had dirty dishes with bugs crawling on them. The home had water but no hot water, the report alleges.

One of the children was placed with their mother, while another child was placed with their grandmother.

Banks didn’t return to the home at the time. He was taken into custody and arrested on Tuesday morning, according jail records.
