A New Carlisle man has been accused of striking and head-butting a woman he knows during an alleged argument about a gift card.

Joseph M. Hayden, 41, faces charges of assault and domestic violence, according to court records. He pleaded not guilty in Clark County Municipal Court on Monday.

Clark County deputies were called on Oct. 28 to a home in the 200 block of Orth Street about a man assaulting a woman, according to a police report. Hayden allegedly held the victim on the bed, then punched her three times before head-butting her and kneeing her, the report says. Hayden then left, according to the police report.

They allegedly had argued about a gift card, the report says. Deputies issued a warrant his arrest and he was booked into the Clark County Jail on Sunday evening.
