A Springfield child has been reported safe after she was in a car that was stolen on Sunday.

A 19-month-old child was left in a 2003 Honda Pilot while the mother went inside a home in the 200 block of West Grand Avenue for “less than a minute,” according to a police report.

When the mother returned outside, police said the car and her daughter were gone.

Springfield Police later received a call that the car could be found near West Liberty Street and South Fountain Avenue.

A witness stated he saw an unidentified black man walking away from the vehicle toward an alley away from West Liberty Street.

The child didn’t appear to be harmed, according to the police report.

At this time, no suspect has been identified. Fingerprints were submitted to be processed, police said.
