Car stolen, set on fire in Springfield alley

A car stolen and set on fire on Tuesday morning in Springfield is believed to be an arson, according to a police report.

Springfield Police officers were sent to an alley near the 2000 block of Woodside Avenue about midnight Wednesday on a report of a car fire.

A woman told police she didn’t see any suspects but heard a large explosion behind her home and called 9-1-1. The woman’s fence was damaged in the fire, the report says.

The police spoke with the car’s registered owner, who lives in the 2000 block of Columbus Avenue. She told police she had no idea her car was missing and had last seen it about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. She couldn’t provide any information about possible suspects.
