Springfield native John Legend released a new single “In America” this week.

The single was written during the production of Legend's latest album, "Darkness and Light" but didn't make the final cut.

The song was then re-purposed to be used alongside the critically acclaimed television show “Underground.”

In an interview with billboard Magazine, Legend noted that the song highlights the highs and lows of living in America.

“‘In America’ was the perfect song for ‘Underground,’ a series I’m incredibly proud to be a part of, and one that does a beautiful job of portraying a challenging time in our nation’s history while reminding us that change is possible,” Legend said.
