Doug McGregor, co-owner and head chef at Seasons Bistro and Grille, believes dining shouldn’t be just a meal but an experience — one that includes great food, great service and interesting visuals to check out on its 110-foot walls.

Seasons will begin 2018 with Rhonda Sloan as its winter featured artist.

An artist reception will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Seasons, 28 S. Limestone St. It will include complimentary hors d’ oeuvres and some of the art will be for sale.

Past art subjects have included terracotta, oil on canvas, live painting and work from artists from TAC Industries.

“We like the creativity and having the artists in each season,” said McGregor. “Our cooks like to come in and be surprised to see the different works when we change them.”

Sloan, of Champaign County, was recognized as the featured artist for the 2017 Art Affair on the Square event in Urbana and had her watercolor paintings displayed in numerous local exhibitions.

Her art captures local places including downtown Springfield, local rural areas and international places. Sloan’s works will be up into March when a new artist will replace her.

Seasons’ winter menu will be highlighted by a cassoulet, a French peasant stew with a variety of ingredients, also bringing in sausage sandwiches on baguette and sauerkraut for the lunch menu and other comfort foods.

Several seasonal fruits and vegetables including blood oranges, Meyer lemons, acorn squash and apples will also be incorporated into dishes.

McGregor emphasizes he uses nearly all local vendors for Seasons’ produce, condiments and meats, including Gil’s Quality Meat Market, Davidson’s Home Growers and Woeber’s Mustard. They also serve Mother Stewart’s Brewing Co. craft beers.

“It’s an interesting time of the year and we’re really excited about what we have to offer and hope people will experience it and the art,” he said.
