A Springfield Wendy’s location that has served customers for about three decades will close this month, company officials said.

The Stock Group, based in Sandusky, Ohio, operates five Wendy’s fast food locations in Springfield but it will close its location at 2040 S. Limestone St. on Jan. 14, said Sharon Wilkoski, company director. Despite the closing, four other Wendy’s restaurants remain in Springfield, she said, and the Stock Group has made investments in its other locations in recent years.

Those investments included moving a previous location on West North Street to a new building on West Columbia Street that opened last year. The chain also recently opened a location in the Love’s Travel Stop at the I-70 and Ohio 41 interchange.

“We just opened the Love’s and we just remodeled the Columbia Street restaurant and we’re just making a business decision right now,” Wilkoski said. “We’ve invested a lot in the Springfield community with the new Love’s that we opened and relocating our Columbia Street location. We’ve put a lot of money into the community and we still believe very much in the Springfield community and we value the customer and the business we do there.”

The location has served customers for more than 30 years, she said, and the company plans to offer positions to the employees at its restaurants from the South Limestone Street location so no job losses are expected.

The other Springfield Wendy’s locations include North Limestone Street, East Main Street, downtown on West Columbia Street and the Love’s Travel Stop.

“We very much value our position in that community for a very long time,” Wilkoski said.

The Stock Group operates 34 restaurants across Ohio and Pennsylvania.

“We have been there a long time and we really appreciated the business,” she said.
