Clark State career fair attracts more than 30 employers

Clark State Community College hosted a career fair Thursday with the intention of helping residents find jobs.

Melody Gast, career services coordinator at Clark State, said hosting the event is a public service from the university.

“We are so excited to be able to provide this community event for the public,” she said. “It’s nice to be able to assist those who are unemployed, underemployed or those who are seeking a new opportunity.”

More than 30 employers representing a wide range of jobs and careers were at the fair Thursday. Gast said it was important to make sure a range of professions were included.

“We have companies that are representing positions in IT, cyber-security, geospatial technology, marketing, health care as well as manufacturing,” she said.

The university teamed up with CareSource to make the career fair open to the general public this year.

Chas Lutterloh, a job seeker who took advantage of the career fair, said he’s looking to get into marketing. He said events like the career fair could be life-changing.

“I like to see what’s around here and the potential jobs,” he said. “I work at a hotel in Dublin and I am looking to do something more in marketing and am looking for positions in Clark County.”

Erin Griffith, who works for the local Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken franchises, said they take advantage of job fairs about six times a year because they can be an asset to find workers.

“We are looking for somebody that is dependable and hardworking, that has a good background,” she said. “We are looking for team members all the way up to management.”

Finding dependable people can be tough sometimes, she said, and someone who is willing to work flexible hours should consider applying.

“The biggest thing for us is customer service, someone who can deal with the public well and speak well,” she said.
