A new Springfield manufacturing firm has started the process to hire 15 to 20 workers as construction continues on its new plant in the Champion City Business Park.

Topre, a Japanese auto parts manufacturer, will hire 15 to 20 maintenance and assembly workers who are expected to be in place by the end of next month, according to information from OhioMeansJobs Clark County.

Topre America announced plans earlier this year to invest $55 million and eventually create at least 85 jobs, with the expectation more workers could be added over the next several years. The new manufacturing site had once been home to a former International Harvester/Navistar factory for generations.

The company is working with OhioMeansJobs Clark County and will host informational sessions as the first step in the hiring process. The one-hour sessions will include information on Topre’s history, as well as job descriptions and information about benefits.

Topre specializes in stamping and producing high-strength steel products, which are increasingly in demand as the auto industry shifts toward strong, lightweight materials that can withstand crashes but are also light enough to improve fuel efficiency.

The manufacturer will open the doors to its new 146,000-square-foot facility at the end of the summer, and begin shipping parts this fall. The company has estimated the annual payroll for the new Springfield jobs will be about $3.45 million.
